Port of Felixstowe Introduces New Energy Adjustment Levy

The Port of Felixstowe has announced a new levy to recover recent rises in energy, which will be effective for imports only from 1st May 2022.

In a recent update, the port advised that it has seen an increase of 100% in its overall year on year energy costs, accounting for its use of wholesale gas, electricity and diesel.

The EAL (Energy Adjustment Levy) will be £11.25 per import container.

The charge will be applicable to all import containers through the port and will be invoiced to the customs clearance party, such as Gateway Cargo, for passing on to the importer.

There will be no EAL charge for export movements as so many containers are leaving the UK empty.

Regretfully, Gateway Cargo will have to pass this charge on to importers on all Felixstowe arrivals that out-gate after midnight on April 30th.

Should you require further information on the above, then please do not hesitate to contact a member of the Gateway team.
